AltCap

AltCap is a Community Development Institution (CDFI) committed to serving as a catalyst for investments that stregthen communities throughout the Kansas City area.

As a mission driven, 501(C)(4) CDFI, AltCap provides alternative capital through a wide range of innovative financial products created to support critical investments in communities not aququately served by traditional financial institutions. Products include:

New Market Tax Credits (NMTC): The NMTC Program was authorized in the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act of 2000 (PL 106-554) as part of a bi-partisan effort to stimulate investment and economic growth in low income communities that lack access to the patient capital needed to support and grow businesses, create jobs, and sustain healthy local economies.  

Facade Improvement Loan Program (FLIP): Facade Improvement Loans are available for improvements to commercial/retail properties along major commercial corridors in AltCap's service area. The FILP is designed to provide nontraditional, flexible financing to commercial/retail property owners wanting to make improvements to their properties to increase business activity for their tenants as well as help beautify their communities.

Diversified Contractors Growth Fund (DCGF): The DCGF is specifically designed to assist M/WBE certified trades contractors in the commercial construction industry. Loans provided through the DCGF are meant to increase M/WBE's financial capacity to bid on and perform public and private contract work they otherwise might not be able to because of cash-flow limitations.

ArtCap: Microloan Fund for Artists- "ArtCap" is an innovative microloan fund created by AltCap in partnership with the City of Kansas City, Missouri's Office of Culture and Creative Services to support the arts community and creative economy in Kansas City, Missouri.  The microloan fund is meant to provide artists, artisans and small businesses in the creative industries access to flexible financing to support their passion and grow their business.

Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO): The WIBO 16-Week Workshop: How to Build a Growing Profitable Business is a nationally renowned peer-to-peer led business training program designed to give entrepreneurs and existing small business owners the skills and confidence to make sound business decisions.

AltCap offers the WIBO 16-Week Workshop once a year.  Cohorts range from 12-15 members and are a mix of established business owners and recent start-ups.  Participants meet each week for three hours in the evening.
