Our History

The Women’s Business Center is one of 100 such organizations in the U.S. partially funded by the Small Business Administration. This program was initiated to foster the participation of women entrepreneurs in the economy, especially those who have been historically underserved or excluded. At the time, women were significantly underrepresented in the business owner ranks. Today, women are starting businesses at one and a half times the rate of men, and now represent 46% of all businesses. Women continue to face challenges in financing and growing their businesses to scale.

Established in 2000, the Women’s Business Center operates as a program of the Enterprise Center of Johnson County, however we serve the entire metropolitan area. In any given year we touch over 1,000 individuals seeking to start or grow businesses.
